Non-EU Citizens
Non-EU citizens willing to work in Lithuania must obtain a work permit. This should be done before coming to Lithuania, unless a foreigner is relieved from this obligation.
A work permit is issued to foreigners for a period of up to two years. The permit specifies a company, institution or organization employing the individual as well as the position taken. Other terms and conditions apply in case of seasonal work or internship.
The modality and procedure for work permits to foreign nationals are established by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour; while work permits are issued by the Labour Exchange Office. The permit shall be issued within two months following the date of the receipt of an application.
A work permit may be issued to a foreign national, if Lithuania has no professional that would meet employer's requirements.
